COMMUNITY GARDENS
A community garden is for everyone to share. Toward Balance Support Network in partnership with
the Health Unit, Fleming College, the City of Kawartha Lakes and interested gardeners and
gardening organizations hope to build gardens that will help to provide clean safe low cost food,
beautify the city and allow people the opportunity to garden for enjoyment. Food can be grown to
supplement family meals and assist social institutions. Flowers and trees can beautify homes,
businesses, and the city as a whole. The experience of family gardening can enrich the fabric of
families everywhere. Everyone is welcome! Please visit www.communitygarden.ca for more information. For the history as well as current updates about the community gardens in the City of Kawartha Lakes, click here.

LIVING LIGHTLY
In the winter of 2009 we began a series of community conversations around the David Chernushenko film, Be The Change. The conversations are designed to help communities to move from wishes to actions in the field of the environment. The first was held in Fenelon Falls in February, the second, in Bobcaygeon in March.
LOCAL FOOD
In January, 2009 we became partners in a local food charter. Going forward we hope to engage the entire city in building and supporting local food as good government, good community, good stewardship of the land, and good economics.
